でしょうか?/ I wonder

でしょうか is put at the end of sentences. It put the means "I wonder". The sentence can become a sentence of your wonder said to yourself or a question to someone.

 

There are some phrases which have the same function. The function is the same among  でしょうか, だろうか, かしら, のかなぁ and かなぁ.

 

でしょうか : formal way of saying.

だろうか : less formal way of saying. Men often uses than women.

かしら: less formal way of saying. Women often uses than men.

のかなぁ and かなぁ: Friendly way of saying. Used among friends and family.

 

For a beginer, it's safe for you to use "でしょうか" for now.

美人になる温泉はないでしょうか。

 

words)

美人(びじん) beautiful woman.

温泉(おんせん) hot spring

美人になる become a beautiful woman.

美人になる温泉 a hotspring where you can become a beautiful woman.

~はない there is no ~.

 

美人になる温泉は ない でしょうか。

=a hotspring where you can become a beautiful woman + There is no + I wonder.

 =I wonder if there isn't a hotspring where you can become a beautiful woman.

 

e.g)

明日は雨が降るでしょうか?

 

明日(あした) tommorow

雨(あめ) rain

降(ふ)る fall

 

明日は雨が降るでしょうか?

=tommorow + rain falls + I wonder.

=I wonder if it will rain tommorow./ Will it rain tommorow?

 

 

彼は明日東京へ着くのだろうか?

I wonder if he will arrive at Tokyo tomorrow.
